Begun in 1969 in the lobby of 65 Court Street at the Board of Education Headquarters in Brooklyn as an evening program of job preparation and placement for early school leavers, ASHS has since grown from four sites open three hours a night into a citywide program with over 60 sites and more than 25,000 students in all the boroughs and neighborhoods in New York City.
