Boys
& Girls Harbor mini college is an enriched GED program collaboratively
sponsored by Boys & Girls Harbor Inc., and the New York State
Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. In addition
to traditional GED instruction, on site work experience training
and computer literacy classes are offered as vocational enriching
components.
The pilot program was initiated September 1996 and is designed
to service 80 students. These students, ages 17 through 22 have
dropped out of school and are at risk of remaining uneducated
and unemployed. Some have been referred from the Department of
Probation, while many are self-referred. Their academic skills
range from near illiteracy to college readiness skills. |
