1986
Nancy Mohr receives a grant to open
a CUNY Collaborative High School on the campus of BCC. With a team
of teachers, she plans the school during the Fall semester.
1986 UHHS opens in February as a NYC BOE Alternative School, with Nancy Mohr, Principal. UHHS uses a Point system, with both morning Seminars and afternoon Seminars. In June, UHHS graduates its first class.
1989
Research Project: "What
Do Students Need to Learn?"
1991
Domains adopted
as an organizing principle for curriculum and assessment. UHHS moves from Tech
11 to Nichols Hall. One team experiments with whole day Seminars.
1992
Portfolio Roundtables
are piloted by one team. Middle Schools are piloted by two teams.
1993
First group of students graduated by
portfolio. Portfolio Roundtables are adopted school-wide.
1994
Assessment system of Progressing, Mastery,
Distinguished is adopted. Whole school moves to whole day Seminars. The
two Middle Schools combine, expand, and are established on their own floor.
1995
All students are promoted and graduate
by Portfolio Roundtable system. Credits are not required. Students have
the same teacher for both Family group and Seminar.
1996
Deborah Harris,
Principal, 1996 - Three Curricular Areas
are established: Humanities; Math, Science, & Technology; and Service
& Health. Each must be represented in every Domain.
1997
Students are separated into Tiers.
1999
School begins reorganization of its
curriculum in line with new state standards, including the adoption of
a credit system.
