Concord High School is a "second chance," alternative transfer school, providing a technology rich program for over-age, under-credited, at-risk and ESL (English-as-a-Second-Language) students. Concord's curriculum meets the New York State Regents and college admissions standards. Each student receives a laptop to use during the school day, and lessons focus on the integration of technology into the teaching process. Students attend rigorous academic blocks in the morning. In the afternoon, they select a career concentration area from a two-year technology academy which includes web page development, programming and CISCO certification, and a Culinary Arts program. Internships in a variety of career areas are also an option for Concord students. All students are prepared to meet the technological challenges of school and the working world. Skills learned include typing, word processing, spread sheets and presentations using Microsoft and Open Office. Web page development and design are also taught to all students. Students learn to use HTML, Macromedia Dreamweaver, and other digital imaging and web development tools. For advanced students who choose it as a career exploration path, we offer systems engineering with Linux/Unix and CISCO Networking. In addition to academic and career preparation courses, all students attend an advisory class which helps them develop life and job skills. To be eligible for admission, students must have attended high school for at least two years, fallen behind in their credits accumulated towards graduation, or be over-age for grade. To schedule an admissions conference, please contact the principal, Mr. Al Nilsen, at [email protected], or the assistant principal, Mr. Ron Gorsky, at 718-447-1274. Applicants will need to bring a copy of their high school transcript, proof of identification and address, and a vaccination record. |
