Who
does the program service?
Students recieving
counseling support will exhibit some of the following characteristics:
- School
suspensions due to violent behaviors
- Past
history of violent behaviors
- Victims
of verbal, emotional and sexual abuse
- Periods
of truancy
- Juvenile
delinquency
- Poor
and/ or failing grades
- Weak
or risky support system
- Drugs
and or alcohol usage
- Teen
pregnancy
- Negative
socialization patterns
- Random
acts of graffiti, vandalism and mischevious behaviors
Program
Highlights:
- Since
September of 2001, the program has facilitated an average of three crisis
mediation sessions a month, about 2/3 of these sessions were initiated by
students
- All
Crisis mediation sessions have resulted in no violence occuring among students
involved
- Started
a Student Advisory Council where students serve as peer mediators and class
presenters. These students also provide feedback on the curriculum and talk
about ways to improve their school
- Every
student who participates in the curriculum will recieve an award from Camelot
to recognize his or her motivation toward a "violence free lifestyle"
