LUNCH AND
TRANSPORTATION
Breakfast and lunch are served at several ASHS sites. ASHS students who qualify (based on N.Y. C.
Dept. of Ed. Guidelines) receive metrocards for travel to and from school.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND
LANGUAGE (ESL)
For some ASHS
students, English is not the home or primary language. To meet the needs of these students, many
ASHS sites offer ESL classes. ESL
students develop written and oral proficiency in English and progress to gain
knowledge in the content areas. ASHS
Excel Program offers after school instruction for ESL students who plan to take
the SAT exams.
ASHS Saturday SAT Program at Manhattan
Learning Center
ASHS sponsors a district-wide SAT Prep Program at the Manhattan
Learning Center
location. Instructors are Kaplan-trained
and we use the Kaplan created instructional materials. This ten-week course which includ es a pre
and post test, prepares students for the June exam. Guidance services are also available.
COUNSELING SERVICES
Guidance counselors
and social workers are available to help students with their academic, social
and emotional development. Students are
able to get help not only with applying for the GED test, but also applying
colleges and financial aid.

Center houses the LYFE
Center, a small day care center for
infants and toddlers of Tenzer students.
