on the Choir Academy of Harlem Debate Team participate in policy debate. Policy
debate is a form of evidence-centered debate on a predetermined topic.
By competing in policy debate students develop research skills, critical
thinking, teamwork and advocacy through public speaking.
Policy debate competitions take place at the high school and college
levels. (debate team

2002 - 2003 debate topic (resolution) is: The
United States Federal Government should substantially increase health care
assistance to deal with mental health issues. The
Choir Academy of Harlem Debate Team is a member of the New York Urban Debate
League. The NYUDL was established
in 1997, in partnership with the Barkley
Forum and the Open Society Institute
(OSI), to institutionalize high school debate in New York City public
schools, providing urban students with the critical academic and personal
success skills they need to get better grades, go to college and create positive
social change. The NYUDL has
expanded to include 40 high schools in New York City. The
NYUDL is administered by the IMPACT
Coalition. Tournament
