In this class we will cover the basic office skills (keyboarding, E-mail, Internet searching, spreadsheets, word processing, database management, graphic manipulation, presentations, and web authoring) by applying those skills to real world situations. Every day there will be 15 minutes of typing practice. Typing tests will be every friday. Grading will be on accuracy for the first half of the semester. At the 8th week, when the entire keyboard is mastered, speed will count towards grade.
Unit I: (Weeks 1 & 2) Creating
and Maintaining a Personal Database in Excel
In your personal database you will set up a workbook for keeping track of your personal information: contacts (names, addresses, phone numbers and Email), keyboarding progress, and attendance records.
Unit II: (Weeks 3 - 5) Establishing E-mail and a personal Web Site
In this unit we will establish email and web page with links to your project pages. As we move along in this course, you will modify and update the pages and links.
- Establish E-mail accounts ( use mail.yahoo.com )
- Send E-mail

Unit III: (Weeks
6 - 8) "Get a Life" -- Web Folio and Internet Searching for Careers
In this unit we will complete the pages (see assignment " research&story ") for our Web Folio and research careers on careercruising.com and evaluate choices
- Click on the Webquest for your lessons on the Career Search.
- Create a summary of your researach in your research.html page and make a link to story.html
- Create story.html and code your story about one day in your life on the job in your career choice

Unit IV: (Week 9&10)Word
processing
You will
explore the features of Microsoft Word 2000 to discover the formatting possibilities.

Unit V: (Week 11) Move Files to Internet
You will set up a password for your student account on the Alternative High Schools server for hosting your webpages.

Unit VI: (Week 12) Analyze Graphs
You will examine your two graphs -- attendance and keyboarding skills. You will use PowerPoint to construct a presentation about yourself.
