Derek Jones

I am a Social Studies and Video teacher at Satellite Academy. I have been at Satellite going on seven years and I really wouldn't want to teach at any other school. I started my career with young people 16 years ago when I took a job as a Paraprofessional in District Nine in the Bronx. During my education career, I have had the good fortune to work with every age group from Kindergarten to High School seniors. At Satellite Academy, I run a program called the Urban Video Project and this program produces student documentaries on various subjects that are pertinent to students of color. My future aspiration is to someday soon open a small school that focuses on technology and video arts to promote literacy and narrow the digital divide for inner city youth.
