Satellite Academy High School Forsyth is a vital community of learners
located on the Lower East Side. It is an alternative high school
founded in 1979. We service students who were unsuccessful at their
previous schools, yet are determined to complete their high school
educations.
|
Satellite welcomes students ages 15 - 21 from all over New York
City. Many of our students are parents, primary breadwinners and/or
caretakers for their families. Many look forward to being the first
high school graduate in their families.
|
We offer a rigorours academic program infused with art, video amd
theater. We complement our academic offerings with social services
that empower our students to overcome the obstacles that contributed
to their previous problems. Our graduates attend a variety of two
and four year colleges.
|
Satellite works with each student as a multi-facetted individual
learner. Because we are a small school, our young people get much
personal attention. We help students focus on their strengths and
interests. We encourage them to take responsibility for their future.
They graduate from Satellite with strong critical thinking skills,
a deep foundation of knowledge, as well as a supportive base to
which they can always return. alumni consistently express their
gratitude to Satellite Academy for giving them "a chance when
no one else would."
|
Satellite is recognized as a leader in anti-violence education.
Our community prioritizes respect for each other and working out
problems through conflict resolution. Satellite students through
taking ownerhship of our no-violence policy, value 198 Forsyth street
as a place they can come to learn and express themselves without
having to worry about "watching their backs."
|
Dedicated teachers work closely with organizations and individuals
to create rich curricula that are relevant to our students' lives
